Perfect Strangers Cathryn Beeks '07

Summertime is here again I can tell by the oscillating fans.
They blow so low they lull me deep into a daydream of a time long ago
I was always on the road.  In all the places that I've lived only a few
had air conditioning but all those places came with strangers who became
my friends, people that were part of me I'll probably never see again.

Some of my best friends are perfect strangers, A little bit of time can seem like ages, everyone moves on sooner or later, all my friends are perfect strangers.

You used to see me every Wed. night.  We'd say "hello, hope you are alright".  We'd talk about the week before about the girl with the guitar about that song she sang, what was her name?  Funny thing about a song, can make a moment last so long.  When you hear that song again you will remember where and when and who, you'll think about the friends you knew.

I think about you every now and then.  I think it's time we get together again.  We can talk about the good 'ol times, friends are all we have in life

The moral of the story is: fans remind me of old friends.  All those people I knew then I wonder if they're wondering, it's been so long...
I wonder if they'll hear this song.
I've met some truly amazing people in my travels. They impacted and positively affected my life in such a huge way... though I've lost touch with most, I think about them a lot.
The Last Round
Cathryn Beeks '07

I'm having such a good time, wish it could last
the best things in life go by way too fast
once I had a dream and it felt just like this night everyone was there and everything was alright

But it's the last round, don't turn it down
this one's on me.  It's last round we'll stumble out into the morning.  It's the last round we painted this town, but before we go let's have one last round we'll sing it real loud a song everybody knows

I'm a lucky soul I won't pretend I could hardly ask for a nicer bunch of friends my family they raised me to believe that happiness is inside you and me

Nothing better than
being with good friends and singing
until it's morning.
This Time Next Year Cathryn Beeks '07

it's getting cold at night, finally feeling like winter time, my my my my sweets baby's home, got his short pants and slippers on, sitting by the fire in his favorite chair I love this time of year.

We got a little christmas tree, live and pretty as she can be.  I'm decorating with things from the past, fragile memories, pieces of glass I remember...after December we'll plant her real close to here then we'll get another little tree this time next year.

Gonna see the family mom was born on christmas day got so much stuff to celebrate lots to do but it's getting late my my my my my look at my lovely man sleeping in his chair he is my favorite gift each and every year watch him wake peacefully smiles when he finds me there I hope it's just like this this time next year.

I'm feeling warm with wine and the fire has slowly died the house is bathed in christmas lights me and baby call it a night my my my my my....

This little tree she sure looks fine look how she leans toward the light like she likes to shine, oh like she likes to shine
TRY THIS AGAIN Cathryn Beeks '08
Another day has come and gone
All I am is what I’ve done, nothing
Jonny's picking up the place, Jonny always does everything

today was the day the day I would start it all over
be early be healthy be busy productively sober
tomorrow I'll try this again

This summer’s been a troubled one
can’t recall a more sorrowful season
I know losing people is part of life
but still I ask the question why, why?

But reasons are not always why they don’t make us feel better
We’re all different now that they’re gone don’t ever forget it
Tomorrow you can try this again

Tomorrow can’t come soon enough I’m anxious to make some real changes
Jonny will be proud of me He’s seen me through all of my phases

it's the little things keep us all teetering right on the edge
forgiving forgetting for God's sake let yourself rest
Tomorrow you can try this again
Some say "Dont' be so hard on yourself, there's always tomorrow"
My gut tells me to try as hard as you can now because you never know what tomorrow has in store for you.
When Summer is Over Cathryn Beeks '07

I'm tempted to tell you how I really feel
but what good would come so I bite my tongue
and we carry on together all happy ever after
pretending to be friendly unerneath there aint no love,

this day it reminds me of day much the same
when we all went for a quick drink after the game
nothing felt strange conversations weren't strained
we all sat and laughed and listened, remember when we listened?
We used to listen...

when summer is over the weather gets colder
people stay in till it's warm again
I think it's time for breather, I hope it get's easier
when summer is over

It's hot sticky stale, this air that don't move
makes people crazy puts me in a bad mood
so I look for comfort from friends that I know
but I find only distance, I find only sorrow,
we used to listen, there aint no love

This song is about friends and acquaintances and the importance of knowing the difference between the two.
Message To You Cathryn Beeks '08

Someday you'll be the one they all turn to when you walk into a room,
you shine like a ray from the sun. I guess you'll have to learn to tone it down, read the room while you float around then find a good seat when you're done.  Don't be trying to be the center of attention, listening is key, baby did I mention I'm just telling you what to do cause after all I've been through seems like the thing to do.

You will be known by your name, but your actions will tell the world everything, everything.  There aint nothing quite like the truth that is my message to you

I hope you find the space in between being hard and easy hope the difference is clear to you.  Want you to laugh loud, dance around be kind and be proud, don't be afraid to look like a fool.  I wish I could protect you from all the bad things the heartaches and heart breaks that this life can bring wish you all the strength through alla your you mistakes, travel safely baby you where your heart takes you.  You're gonna have so much fun, all around you there is love

I see a light in you it shines true do whatever you want to, dream big and follow through.  Keep your head on straight don't be late keep love inside, try not to hate do as they'll do to you birds and those feathers It's true they fly together
so choose wisely with whom you soar save letters and postcards cherish those old scars they'll remind you of who you are.
To my sweet niece,Briana
