Bring Him
Cathryn Beeks '02

I want a man who looks like Jesus
With facial hair and chiseled features
Don’t need a man who can work miracles
Just one who understands me
Knows what I need

I need a man who'll keep me laughing
Count on him whatever happens
Not too handsome
just a little bit smarter than me
He always finds a way

Bring him to me

I want a man who thinks I’m pretty
Feels like home when he’s with me
Takes my hand looks me in the eyes
smiles and shakes his head
And I know just want he means

Bring Him was written in 2002 on a cold night just before Christmas when I thought the search for the man of my dreams was becoming futile.  First recorded with The Gandhi Method in 2004, this recording better captures the longing that inspired the song.
The good news is, it worked.  I found my "Jesus" in Jon Edwards a few years later.  This song is dedicated to all my girls still searching.  Don't give up, your true love is searching for you, too.
Friends Like You

Listen to that kid singing them songs, every word is perfect, slow and long.  Nnow she's up there playing on them strings.  Hitting 'em hard, sweet and clean, just when you thought you’ve heard everything

Every town has a scene, full of players and a million dreams, any night of the week you can hear us sing it’s not an easy life, our songs they have us out all night but you make it alright, friends like you

we found your set list laying on the floor figured you were rocking the night before we're all out running down the same dream if we stick together
we can do anything all we really wanna do is sing

It's Saturday night and no one's here
I promo'd I postered, man that's weird
You’re down the street playing rocking the crowd
we can hear you from here you play so damn loud
I'm surprised Sam aint asked you to turn down
The Ordeal found Citizen Band's set list on the stage at Cheers in Ramona.  The line stuck and the song was born.  It pays tribute to and gives thanks for all of our  friends, musical and otherwise, who stay up late with us.

We found each other on the road, Afton Wy, it was bitter cold.
The band had just broken up, we were fighting in the parking lot.
I pulled up my rolling home, offered you a ride out of the danger zone.
We escaped with our very lives, I said go to sleep baby, I’ll drive

And from that day you had me, we had we
Now you say that you're leaving, you're leaving me

We moved around a lot through the years, dusty roads, fancy homes, under fishing piers.  You kept me grounded kept me warm, you kept me safe when I was far from home.  Ohio was a close call, had to take you to that hospital.  And then that time in Jacksonville, you kept me waiting, I am waiting still

Too many memories to recall, but you were there, you saw it all
That was then and this is now life is good since we settled down.  Never know what's on your mind, always wonder who you left behind.  Never figured that you'd stay too long and now 16 years later ’m singing you this song.

Jack, we miss you.
Keep Walking Cathryn Beeks '06

I'm keeping up with you, you're keeping up with her she's
keeping up with everyone who's ever walked this way.
Cause you know someone who knows someone who is close
to someone who is in the middle of dealing with it everyday

Keep walking, don't ever stop
Everybody keep walking for those who can not

Just a simple thing it is to do I wonder will you come if I ask you, will you walk with me?  You're gonna feel it in your soul people if you do good things good things will come to you (it's true!)

Hey it aint too late we can win the race, get up and move it's you to the rescue keep on, keeping on, keep walking

sister brothers sons and mothers fathers, daughters aunts and lovers teachers healers workers waiters laymen lawyers farmers fathers woman children girlfriends and postmen challenge training teaching reaching ribbons reasons being believing boys girls all the people of the world walk on walk strong be part belong 3 day we say, gonna find it someday

2006 was gonna be the year I walked in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day until I found out you had to have health insurance. *sigh*
I wrote this song instead and while it doesn't compare to walking 60 miles, it's dedicated to the amazing people who do.
Last Place
Cathryn Beeks '09

Today I feel ok, feel like I could be
If I just would be do you know what I mean?

It's ok in the day, when I am busy
still it aint easy, I'm never really really there

If I seem distant or disinterested
I hope you know that’s not the way it is
Last Place I wanna be is away from the moment
but my heart and bones, they moan

They say it's all in the way
it's how you do it, it's how you use it
I don't know, do you know what I mean?

It keeps me black and blue at least on the inside
you hate when I cry so I keep it from you

Living with physical pain sucks.  I know I'm not the only one out there doing it but often times it feels like it.

This song speaks to the moments I miss due to the constant distraction.
50 Ways Paul Simon '75

The problem is all inside your head", she said to me, The answer is easy if you take it logically.  I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free There must be fifty ways to leave your lover

She said it's really not my habit to intrude, Furthermore, I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued But I'll repeat myself, at the risk of being crude There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover

You just slip out the back, Jack, Make a new plan, Stan You don't need to be coy, Roy, just get yourself free Hop on the bus, Gus, You don't need to discuss much Just drop off the key, Lee, And get yourself free

She said it grieves me so to see you in such pain I wish there was something I could do to make you smile again I said I appreciate that and would you please explain About the fifty ways

She said why don't we both just sleep on it tonight And I believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light And then she kissed me and I realized she probably was right There must be fifty ways to leave your lover Fifty ways to leave your lover
